Snow White is an ancient story from Germany (probably known in other European countries at the time). Brothers Grimm first published it in 1812 (but they didn't create it).

These are Disney's names from 1937:

1. Bashful (he shows his shyness by having hands clasped behind back, shoulders slightly raised, eyes upturned).
2. Doc (he wears glasses and is the most intellectual).
3. Dopey (the youngest, sweetest, and silliest of the seven. He is beardless).
4. Grumpy (the grouchiest and most curmudgeonly of the group).
5. Happy (the most rotund of the dwarfs).
6. Sleepy (he wears a perpetually sleepy looking, heavily lidded expression on his face).
7. Sneezy (frequently shown with one finger underneath his nose, as if trying to stifle a sneeze).

There was a play in Broadway in 1912. The names in this play were the following (though almost nobody uses them nowadays):
